The Travessia da Serra da Coroa is the easiest road invitation to discover Montesinho — a half-day ride at an easy pace, to take in the scenery.

Cycle touring, not racing. It is a route to ride calmly, on traffic-free roads, stopping as often as needed — to photograph the landscape or to get to know authentic villages. From the town, along the EN 103, the edge of the Natural Park is clear, lying to the north.

Villages with history. From Sobreiró the route enters mountain road, with care on the bends, damp for much of the year. Peleias is a pleasant village; then comes Tuízelo, whose history predates the 12th century, with the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios and the Church of Santo André — and café and restaurant for a stop.

The Serra da Coroa. Via Salgueiros and Vilar de Ossos comes the junction to Travanca and Santa Cruz (there is the option of a shortcut straight to Vinhais). Those who continue cross the Serra da Coroa, with a demanding descent, to Santa Cruz, a village where rural life still rules. The return skirts the range southward, via Paçó and Quintela, to the EN 103, Vila Verde and Vinhais.
