Ermida Route

From the town to the Tuela, by the Ermida chapel

Ermida Route

A short walk starting and ending in the village of Vinhais, which winds down the hill to the hamlet of Ermida and the River Tuela, passing through pine forests and hazel groves. With its scenic character, it combines well with the D’Arranca a Moás route to create different walking options.

Centre: Vinhais

Conceived from the town itself, this route drops to the village of Ermida, to the south, with a short passage by the Rio Tuela. It was designed to pair with the D'Arranca a Moás route — together, marked in both directions, the two generate several layout combinations. Clockwise, it winds down the hillside about 3 km to the Rio Tuela; a little further on lies Ermida, with a visit to the chapel, almost overlooking the river. This is the turning point: the climb back to Vinhais has hard gradients, but is rewarded by the beauty of the path, the good surface and the freshness of the pinewood and chestnut groves. A mainly scenic route, good training or a taster for the larger walk.
